Introduction	The root of Polygonum multiflorum, well known as He-shou-wu, is one of the most popular traditional medicinal herb in China. It has a history of use in the treatment of rheumatic arthralgia, aching of the loins and knees, traumatic injuries and Constipation. It grows extensively in China , Japan and Taiwan. The unprocessed root is mostly used medicinally. At present, the unprocessed root is used to relax the bowels and detoxify the blood.
